Admissions Overview

ADMISSIONS PROCESS + POLICIES

Our admissions process begins with a blind lottery, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all applicants. We have transitioned to the EnrollRI system for streamlined applications. Key deadlines are set throughout the year, and applicants must provide a phone number and email address.

Current waitlist policies remain in effect, with special considerations for Providence residents. The annual lottery takes place in early March, marking the start of our enrollment cycle.

Sibling Preference Policy

Enrollment Advantage

Highlander Charter School offers a sibling preference policy to support families with multiple children. If an applicant has a sibling currently enrolled, they receive priority during the lottery process. This policy helps keep families together within our educational community. In cases where multiple siblings
apply simultaneously, each child is individually entered into the lottery, but the preference increases their chances of
being accepted.

Understanding the importance of family unity, we strive to accommodate siblings whenever possible, while maintaining fairness and transparency in our admissions process.

Acceptance Process

Upon acceptance, students will receive a detailed letter outlining the next steps.

This includes a confirmation form that must be completed and returned within 15 days to secure your spot. Failure to respond within this timeframe may result in forfeiting the offer.

Required documents include proof of residency, birth certificate, and immunization records.

If no response is received, a follow-up will be conducted to ensure all families have the opportunity to confirm their enrollment.

It’s crucial to adhere to the deadlines to ensure your child’s place at Highlander Charter School.

Our team is available to
assist with any questions regarding the acceptance process, ensuring a smooth transition for all new students.

Age Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

To enroll in our pre-kindergarten program, children must be four years old by September 1st of the enrollment year. Similarly, for kindergarten, students must be five years old by the same date. This policy ensures that all children are developmentally prepared for the academic challenges of their respective programs.

Employee Admissions Priority

Children of Employees Admissions Policy

We recognize the dedication of our full-time employees and offer priority admission for their children. This policy ensures that children of our staff receive preferential consideration during the enrollment process, similar to the sibling preference policy. By doing so, we aim to support our employees in balancing their professional and family commitments.

Our admissions policy for children of employees is designed to foster a supportive community within our school. This priority helps integrate the families of our staff into the Highlander Charter School community, reinforcing our commitment to those who contribute to our educational mission.

Re-Entry and Waitlist Information

Leaving Highlander Charter School requires careful consideration of the re-entry process. If a student wishes to return, they must follow the standard admissions procedures, including participation in the lottery system. This ensures fairness and transparency in our enrollment process.

Being on the waitlist means that a student cannot be admitted outside the designated lottery window. It is crucial for families to adhere to application deadlines to maintain their position on the waitlist. We encourage families to stay informed about these timelines to ensure a smooth transition back into our school community.

Our commitment to a fair admissions process means that all students, including those on the waitlist, must adhere to the same guidelines and deadlines. We strive to provide clear communication to families about their status and any necessary steps for re-entry.
